THE DEPARTMENT:
The Risk Management Division has the primary responsibility to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company's operational and strategic risk. The Risk Management Department utilizes risk management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to an enterprise risk management framework. Our mission is to treat risk in the methods most beneficial, economical, feasible and practical for the safety, security and integrity of the Company, its assets, employees, customers and service providers. Risk Management accomplishes these objectives through a collaborative team approach, solving problems, and supporting company initiatives.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Security Director is responsible for physical and electronic security of the Helzberg Store Support Center buildings and all store locations in addition to the Ben Bridge Corporate Office and all store locations to ensure a safe working environment for associates and to guard against financial loss. This position will perform the following responsibilities for both Helzberg and Ben Bridge store locations and corporate office buildings. This position will require 25%-30% travel.

This position must work closely with Facility Managers to coordinate appropriate building access for various construction projects. The Physical Security Director works frequently with the Distribution, Merchandise and Computer Operation departments and with other departments as needed to coordinate building schedules based on business needs. The Director must also develop and maintain a relationship with the contract guard service as well as the representatives of the alarm companies and safe/vault providers for installation and service. As needed, the Director will coordinate security with local police departments during special projects and events at store locations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  1. Helzberg SSC Security Personnel: Responsible for the recruiting, staffing, scheduling, and management of the Security Operations Team. Supplement coverage with contract security as needed. Ensure all armed security personnel are appropriately trained and have passed Helzberg qualifications standards.
  2. Contract Security: Directly involved in selecting, developing, and managing contract guard services to provide daily onsite guard service at selected retail stores and Corporate Office Buildings. Approve work schedule and compensation program. Interact with guard service national account representative(s) on a regular basis to assure quality compliance.
  3. Physical Security Systems and Equipment: Manage the multiple security alarm, card access, screening technology and CCTV systems in all store locations and Corporate Office Buildings. Ensure all alarm and CCTV equipment are tested and operating properly. Work with Real Estate and Construction Department to ensure adherence to physical security standards for all retail stores, corporate offices and distribution centers. Initiate repair orders, negotiate fees and coordinate repairs and installations as needed.
  4. Special Events: Primary contact responsible for coordinating and scheduling armored courier and off-duty police services for special promotions and events. Work directly with internal business partners to develop and approve promotion/event calendar. Maintain daily communication with armored courier and store manager regarding promotion/event scheduling.
  5. Locks/Keys: Maintain and operate the lock and key programs for all retail stores, distribution center and corporate office. Order new locks and hardware for all new stores and re-model projects. Re-key and code locks as needed. Update code files and information as needed.
  6. Safes/Vaults: Primary contact with safe and vault providers. Determine needs for safes and vaults in all new and remodel stores. Facilitate all necessary service and repairs.
  7. Technology: Research, implement and integrate new technologies for retail locations and corporate offices that complement and enhance company data gathering objectives.
  8. Budgeting/Expense Management: Prepare and control the expense budget for alarms, CCTV, safes, locks, keys and contract security as well as Security Operations Team uniforms, equipment, range fees and ammunition.
  9. Performs special projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will have one direct report with oversight and responsibility for the Helzberg loss prevention security team and Contract Security personnel at both Helzberg and Ben Bridge.

Responsibilities include:
  • Accomplish department objectives by directing and monitoring the work progress of direct report, team and contract personnel.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to direct report and team.
  • Set expectations, annual goals and provide required quarterly touch base meetings with direct report.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years of retail loss prevention, facility security or law enforcement experience.
  • Management or supervisory experience required.
  • Advanced experience and intricate knowledge of CCTV, burglar/panic alarm, card access, metal detection equipment and other security related devices required.
  • Ability to problem solve equipment problems. For resolution requiring outside assistance, ability to communicate with technical service providers and non-technical users required.
  • Knowledge of security principles and applicable laws is required.
  • Additional training, college courses in criminal justice, life safety and interrogation are desirable.
  • Basic Microsoft Word/Excel skills preferred.
  • CPP preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to stores, repair shops and offices across the United States.
  • Hybrid schedule with predictable onsite attendance required three or more days per week to perform essential functions involving interactive behaviors with co-workers and managers, operation or manipulation of equipment and/or materials located only on site, and direct interaction with internal and/or external customers.
